Our past experiences shape how we think, feel, interact and behave today. Unresolved emotional difficulties predisposes us to chronic distress, inability to maintain satisfying relationships and careers – even illness. By exploring and understanding our personal history, we begin to unravel its impact on our present-day life.
My therapy style is warm, respectful and collaborative. While my broad professional background brings life experience beyond my degrees, my passion is psychology. While I am well-trained in psychodynamic, sensorimotor psychotherapy and group therapy principles, I carefully choose the treatment method that best fits your existing strengths and goals. My philosophy assumes that you are the ultimate agent of change in your life and that I am a resource for you.
My evidence-based approach to therapy makes use of the powerful evidence that early experience with caregivers determine life long patterns as well as the newer evidence of therapeutic interventions that can activate the clients self-healing mechanism. Unresolved emotional difficulties predisposes us to chronic distress, inability to maintain satisfying relationships and careers – even illness.
Science tells us that our brains and bodies contain information for resolving our pain and conflict. My body-focused and experiential therapy aims to help clients solve their problems by tapping into their own “deeper knowing”.
I work with adolescents and adults of all ages and offer individual, couples and group counseling. I also work with individuals and families who are coping with terminal or life-threatening illness.
My work with you will begin by my getting an idea of what’s going on today and what brings you to therapy. Together, we will explore the specifics of your pain or conflict. The details are important. During this initial session, we will explore what you hope to get from therapy and, specifically, what your goals are.
Our work together will proceed by clarifying the patterns around your current difficulties and defining the triggers that help set those patterns into motion. At the end of the initial interview, once I have an idea of what is currently going on in your life and what you hope to get from therapy, I will give recommendations as to how to proceed.
A standard treatment for more than 50 years, group therapy is extremely beneficial in treating depression, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. Group therapy provides a safe place where you can come together with others to share problems or concerns, to better understand your own situations, and to learn from and with others. Group therapy can help you create more satisfying relationships, become more self-accepting, and find a sense of belonging.
My group consists of 6-8 people who share their problems and concerns to better understand themselves and to learn from each other. Group is a powerful tool in helping members improve their relationships, counter their loneliness and improve their self-esteem. Ensuring that members feel safe in group is of primary importance to me.
The group meets every Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5pm.
The cost for a group session is $50 per 90 minute session.
I accept cash and checks. Please note that payment is required in full at the time of service.
I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare.
